How Ghana PAYE Tax Works
Pay As You Earn (PAYE) is a progressive income tax system used in Ghana. Your income is taxed at increasing rates as you move through each tax bracket. The first GHS 490 of monthly income is tax-free, and the highest rate of 35% only applies to income above GHS 50,416.67 per month.
Calculation Steps
- Calculate Gross Income Add basic salary + allowances + bonus + Benefits in Kind
- Deduct SSNIT Contribution 5.5% of basic salary (capped at GHS 5,083.33/month)
- Determine Taxable Income Gross Income - SSNIT Deduction
- Apply Tax Brackets Progressive rates from 0% to 35%
- Calculate Take-Home Pay Gross Income - SSNIT - PAYE Tax
